Resolution I Luigi Boccherini Music Research Grant

The evaluation committee for the I Luigi Boccherini / AIE Music Research Grant, composed of Dr. Yoel Greenberg (Hebrew University, Jerusalem), Dr. Jorge Grundman (member of the ALB, Polytechnic University of Madrid), Dr. Timothy Jones (Royal Academy of Music, London), Dr. Ana Lombardía (University of Salamanca), Dr. Ana Llorens (member of the ALB, Complutense Institute of Musical Sciences), Dr. Judith Ortega (Complutense University of Madrid), and Dr. Iagoba Fanlo (non-voting member, president of the ALB, acting as secretary), unanimously agreed to award the 1st Luigi Boccherini / AIE Music Research Grant to Mr. Miguel Ángel Ríos Muñoz.

Similarly, the evaluation committee notes the high standard of the applications received, and the Asociación Luigi Boccherini announces the call for applications for the II Luigi Boccherini Scholarship in 2027.


The I Beca de Investigación Luigi Boccherini is a research scholarship intended to promote academic work focused on the musician Luigi Boccherini. Applications are welcome under the following terms:

  • The scholarship provides a financial award of €6,000, which includes potential open-access publication costs in a high-impact journal or publisher (if applicable). 
  • The topic of the funded project must revolve around Luigi Boccherini, broadly understood: his life, his musical and interpretative legacy, and the creative environment of his time (including agents, spaces, dynamics, etc.). 
  • The call is open to students and researchers worldwide, at various stages of their careers. 
  • Eligible projects may be related to PhD dissertations, master’s theses, graduate work, or independent investigations linked or not to a university or research center. Completed or previously published work will not be accepted. 
  • The main goal of the scholarship is to support publication in a high-impact journal or publishing house. Once the funded research is submitted, the committee will advise and assist the recipient in the publication process. 

Applications must be sent via e-mail to the Luigi Boccherini Association’s Scholarship Service: beca@luigiboccherini.es, along with the following documents: 

  • Motivation letter, maximum length: 1 page. 
  • CV, maximum length: 4 pages. The Abbreviated CV format (CVA) of the Spanish State Research Agency may be used. Researcher codes (e.g., ORCID), institutional affiliation, and current employment status should be included, if applicable. 
  • Research project proposal, maximum length: 4 pages, including at least: Title, Justification of the topic, State of the art, Objectives, Sources and methodology, Timeline, Bibliography, Budget breakdown (including any expected publishing expenses) 
  • Copy of National ID or Passport. 

All documents must use a minimum font size of 11 points and standard margins. 

Key Dates 

  • Application period: 10 July to 30 September 2025 (until 23:59 h). 
  • Decision announcement: Before 1 December 2025
  • Submission of final research work to the Association: By 1 November 2026
  • Submission to the chosen journal or publisher: Before the end of 2026

This is a biennial scholarship, supported by the Spanish Society of Performers Artists (www.aie.es).

The award will be paid in two installments:

  • The first €3,000 by 31 December 2025;
  • The second after the submission of the final research project. 

Obligations of the Awardee 

  • The article resulting from the grant must explicitly mention the funding provided by the Luigi Boccherini Association Research Scholarship and by the Spanish Society of Performers Artists. 
  • The recipient of the scholarship must appear as the first author in the list of contributors. In the case of undergraduate or postgraduate theses, the author agrees to include their supervisor if deemed appropriate. Submission of the work implies that all authors have given their consent. 
  • The awardee commits to submitting the research work funded by the scholarship to the Association before the date specified in the schedule. Likewise, submission to the selected journal or publisher must be made before the end of 2026, once the approval of the Association has been received. 
  • If the publication is rejected by the journal or publisher chosen in the first instance, the candidate agrees to retry at least two more times in other publishers or journals of impact, always with the approval of the Association. 

Data Protection Policy 

The purpose of processing the personal data provided with the applications is solely to manage the Luigi Boccherini Association’s scholarships. The data will be stored for the time necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected and to determine any potential responsibilities that may arise from that purpose and the processing of the data. Documents containing the personal data necessary to verify the scholarship period will be stored indefinitely.
